Rolling Stones Reveal "HAVANA MOON" on DVD/BD/CD on November 11

On November 11, 2016 Eagle Rock Entertainment will release ‘’Havana Moon’’ by The Rolling Stones on DVD+2CD, Blu-ray+2CD, DVD+3LP plus a special Deluxe Edition.

Good Friday - March 25, 2016 - was the date that's gone down in both Cuban and Rock ‘n’ Roll history;  The Rolling Stones became the first rock band to play a massive free outdoor concert to hundreds of thousands in Havana. This historic concert was captured by award winning film director Paul Dugdale and the result is:

‘HAVANA MOON’ - The Rolling Stones Live in Cuba.
The British rockers' free show attracted a million people in the country's capital city in the same week as President Obama became the first US President to visit Cuba in 88 years. TV News Networks around the world reported that Obama was ‘the warm up act’ for the Rolling Stones. As the Stones took to the stage under a perfect ‘Havana Moon’ in front of an ecstatic crowd everyone knew that this was a life changing cultural moment for a country on the brink of change. There was nothing that was going to come between the band and their eager fans including the Vatican in Rome who had objected to a big rock ‘n’ roll concert staged in Havana on a Good Friday.

Mick Jagger welcomed the massive crowd: “Finally the times are changing, Cuba we are so happy to be here" and joked with his bandmates during the performance describing them as "the revolutionary Ronnie Wood, drummer Charlie Che Watts, and compadre Keith Richards". They played all the big hits including "Jumpin’ Jack Flash", "It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll", "Paint It Black", "Honky Tonk Women", "Start Me Up", "Brown Sugar", "You Can’t Always Get What You Want" and "(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction" in the two hour plus performance all captured here on Havana Moon.

MIA MADRE Announced for November 15 DVD/BD Release

The latest film from the acclaimed Italian filmmaker Nanni Moretti (Caro Diaro, The Son’s Room), MIA MADRE offers a characteristically wry blend of drama and humor as it tells the tale of a movie director attempting to balance the demands of her latest movie and her crisis-filled personal life.

MIA MADRE stars Margherita Buy, who won a David di Donatello Award for her role, and John Turturro, who most recently starred in the highly lauded HBO miniseries The Night Of.

Filled with laughter, tears and layers of emotion that can be found between the two, MIA MADRE sets its eye on Margherita Buy as she portrays an Italian filmmaker coincidentally named Margherita. Poor Margherita: She’s shooting her latest film while she tries to stave off a nervous breakdown as she simultaneously contends with a charming but difficult American actor (Turturro), a romantic break-up, a non-communicative teenage daughter (Beatrice Mancini) and her beloved mother’s (Giulia Lazzarini) progressive illness.

Moretti—who also portrays Margherita’s brother and partner-in-caregiving—carefully crafts MIA MADRE with a style that is as strong and unassumingly direct as it is subtle and understated. Examining how we process sadness and loss and how we gain strength through humor, the film toggles between work and life pressures in a manner that effectively combines all that the two have to offer, be they heavy moments or playful encounters or tender humor or, inevitably, tragedy and sorrow.

Currently enjoying a theatrical rollout to the U.S.’s top markets following its exhibition at leading film festivals in New York, Toronto, Shanghai, San Sebastián, Chicago, Jerusalem and Cannes (where it won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Cannes Film Festival), MIA MADRE will be released on DVD, Blu-ray) for the first time on November 15, 2016 (orders on October 11, 2016) by Music Box Films Home Entertainment. Outfitted with a “making-of” documentary, deleted scenes and additional bonus features, the Blu-ray and DVD carry suggested retail prices of $34.95 and $29.95, respectively.

Filled with the happiness, sadness and comic frustration that bind us all together, MIA MADRE is truly a film that questions whether any of us know exactly how to react when life says “Action.”

MIA MADRE -- Synopsis:
Leading Italian auteur Nanni Moretti finds comedy and pathos in the story of Margherita, a harried film director (Margherita Buy, A Five Star Life) trying to juggle the demands of her latest movie and a personal life in crisis. The star of her film, a charming but hammy American actor (John Turturro, HBO’s The Night Of) imported for the production, initially presents nothing but headaches and her crew is close to mutiny. Away from the shoot, Margherita tries to hold her life together as her beloved mother’s illness progresses, and her teenage daughter grows ever more distant.
MIA MADRE premiered in the Main Competition of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival where it won Ecumenical Jury prize while Margherita Buy received the Best Actress prize at Italy’s 2015 Donatello Awards. Characteristically self-reflexive and autobiographical, Moretti’s latest speaks to the poignancy of human transience, how we process loss and how we gain strength through humor.

David Bowie Legacy CD Gets a November 11 Release

DAVID BOWIE LEGACY releasing on November 11 collects together some of Bowie's finest singles from his first hit, 1969's 'Space Oddity' through to the final singles 'Lazarus' and 'I Can't Give Everything Away' from earlier this year.

DAVID BOWIE LEGACY feature a previously unreleased version of the classic 1971 single 'Life On Mars?' mixed by its original producer Ken Scott.

In over fifty years from his very first recordings right through to his last album Blackstar, David Bowie was at the vanguard of contemporary culture as a musician, artist, icon and a constant influence on generations of writers, artists and designers. He was, and remains to be, a unique presence in contemporary culture.

David Bowie left a legacy of inspiration in every discipline from art to fashion to acting and beyond but it is for the groundbreaking music that he will mostly be remembered.

DAVID BOWIE LEGACY is an introduction to a whole world of music that is just waiting to be rediscovered by a whole new generation.

Author And Music Historian Marc Myers To Release New Book, "Anatomy Of A Song: The Oral History of 45 Iconic Hits That Changed Rock, R&B And Pop" In November

Songs that sell the most copies become hits, but some of those hits become something more—iconic recordings that not only inspire a generation but also change the direction of music. In ANATOMY OF A SONG: The Oral History of 45 Iconic Hits That Changed Rock, R&B and Pop (Grove Press; November 2016; $26 hardcover; ISBN-13: 978-0-8021-2559-0), writer and music historian Marc Myers tells the stories behind five decades of rock, pop and R&B hits through intimate oral history interviews with the artists who wrote and recorded them. Based on the ongoing column for The Wall Street Journal, new chapter introductions detail the drama that caused R&B and rock to evolve over 50 years, while many chapters feature new material either from fresh reporting or from Myers’ original interview tapes.

The songs in ANATOMY OF A SONG range from Lloyd Price’s “Lawdy Miss Clawdy,” one of rock ’n’ roll’s first hits, to Janis Joplin’s “Mercedes Benz,” Loretta Lynn’s “Fist City,” and R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion.” Mick Jagger demystifies the eclectic ballad “Moonlight Mile,” a song he says wasn’t about drugs but about loneliness on a grueling European tour. Joni Mitchell remembers arriving brokenhearted in the village of Matala on the Greek island of Crete and living in a cave with the “mean old daddy” who went on to inspire her 1971 hit “Carey.” And Jimmy Page, Rod Stewart, Elvis Costello, the Clash, Jimmy Cliff, Roger Waters, Stevie Wonder, John Fogerty, Keith Richards, Cyndi Lauper, and many others reveal for the first time the emotions and technique behind their influential works.

ANATOMY OF A SONG can be read like a literary jukebox, allowing readers to jump in anywhere to learn the story behind their favorite songs. Or it can be read linearly as a history of popular music in the second half of the twentieth century. The songs are presented in chronological order, and each is framed by an introduction that brings that moment in music history to life: the cultural context, evolving technology, and larger trends in music. An absorbing song-by-song analysis of the most memorable hits spanning forty years from the beginning of the 1950s relayed through the artists’ own words, ANATOMY OF A SONG provides a sweeping look at the evolution of pop music. This book will change how readers listen to rock and R&B hits, and the artists who created them.

DWIGHT YOAKAM’S “THESE ARMS” PREMIERED ON NPR’S “ALL SONGS CONSIDERED”

Dwight Yoakam’sThese Arms,” from his forthcoming bluegrass record Swimmin’ Pools, Movie Stars…, premiered on NPR’s All Songs Considered. The album is set for release September 23 via Sugar Hill Records and is available for pre-order now. Of the track, NPR said, “You can hear Yoakam making masterful choices on every phrase of these new versions...[it’s] Yoakam, telling a classic tale in a way that’s just new enough to make it personal again.” Listen to the track, above. The album is currently available for pre-order now thru B&T.

For the making of this record, Yoakam assembled a band of bluegrass luminaries to reinterpret favorites from his catalogue of gems featuring eleven Yoakam compositions and a new cover of Prince’s “Purple Rain.” Yoakam is currently on tour across the U.S. and will perform at AmericanaFest Nashville. The new album reflects the love for bluegrass music that Yoakam developed at an early age in Kentucky, and that has inspired him for many years thereafter. Yoakam’s choice to partner with Sugar Hill for this release speaks volumes about the seriousness of this endeavor; Sugar Hill and its sister label Rounder have long been at the forefront of bluegrass, roots and Americana music. This project was produced by nine-time Grammy winner Gary Paczosa (Alison Krauss, Dolly Parton), Jon Randall (songwriter of “Whiskey Lullaby”) and Yoakam, recorded at both Southern Ground Studio (TN) and the legendary Capitol Records Studio B in Los Angeles, and mixed by Chris Lord Alge. For the recording, the production team gathered together a world-class band of bluegrass’ current greats including Grammy winner and nine-time international Bluegrass Music Association Guitar Player of the Year Bryan Sutton, Grammy winner Stuart Duncan on fiddle and banjo, 14-time Grammy winner Barry Bales on bass, Adam Steffey on mandolin (Alison Krauss), and Scott Vestal on banjo (Sam Bush). The LP also features harmony vocals by Jonathan Clark, Brian Whelan, Davey Faragher and newcomer Bryan Joyce.

Yoakam has recorded more than 22 albums and sold over 25 million copies worldwide with five reaching the #1 spot on Billboard. He is a 21-time nominated, multiple Grammy Award winner. In 2013 he was awarded The Americana Music Association Award for Artist of the Year. He has collaborated with everyone from Beck to Kid Rock, ZZ Top, Hunter S. Thompson and Jack White. He has toured with the likes of Buck Owens, Johnny Cash and Hüsker Dü. His most recent album, 2015’s critically acclaimed Second Hand Heart, is included in NPR’s “Best of 2015,” which calls the album “as fresh as anything Yoakam has ever done.” It reached #2 on the Billboard Country chart with Rolling Stone saying the album featured “his best songs in years.”

In 1977, Yoakam left Kentucky for Nashville to embark on a music career but found that the Music City was moving away from traditional county roots to more pop-country. He found himself better suited to the post-Bakersfield movement and became one of the founding fathers of the “L.A. Cowpunk Scene” influenced by second-wave rockabilly and punk alongside X, Los Lobos, The Knitters, Rank & File and The Blasters.

“With Acoustic Christmas, Neil has created a classic holiday album that brims with his singular artistry and an intimate warmth that’s so perfectly suited to these timeless Christmas songs,” says Capitol Music Group Chairman & CEO Steve Barnett. “This a great present for the upcoming holiday season, from Neil to all of us.”
This new collection was produced by Don Was (Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan) and Jacknife Lee (U2, R.E.M.), the pair behind Diamond’s 2014 acclaimed Melody Road. "One need look no further than Neil's earliest hits to know that something special happens when you set his voice in the middle of a few acoustic guitars: the vibrant expression that lives in the nuances of Neil's singing moves to the forefront and creates a profoundly intimate experience,” says Was. “The vibe in the studio seems inspired by the folk scene of Neil’s early years in Greenwich Village. We had a stellar cast of musicians sitting around in a circle of microphones, eclectic acoustic instruments and Christmas lights! We had a wonderful time making this record and the good vibes permeate every track.”

Franglen and Horner had a very close working relationship, having collaborated on major films such as Titanic, Avatar, The Amazing Spider-Man, Karate Kid and Southpaw. Simon won a Grammy Award for Record of the Year for the smash hit "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic, and received Golden Globe, Grammy Award and World Soundtrack Award nominations for co-writing and producing the theme song "I See You" from Avatar. Franglen is a visiting professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Simon resides in England and Los Angeles.

Sting Releases "I Can't Stop Thinking About You", from His Forthcoming "57th & 9th" Album - LISTEN

Sting has released his first single from his upcoming solo album, his twelfth,  57th & 9th.  The tune is “I Can’t Stop Thinking About You”, listen to the studio version of the song above, and watch the former Police member at work.

Since releasing his most recent “traditional” studio album, 2003’s Sacred Love, Sting's experimented with lutes (2006’s Songs From the Labyrinth), Christmas music (2009’s If on a Winter’s Night … ), orchestrally reworked some of his catalog songs (2010’s Synchronicities) and wrote, and starred in, his own Broadway show (captured in an OCR version via 2013’s The Last Ship.)

57th & 9th producer Martin Kierszenbaum said the new album recalls the more stripped-down approach of the Police, teasing fans; “I don’t think he’s rocked like this since [1983’s] Synchronicity.”  Sting seems to disagree,  and dismissed the Police’s 2007-08 reunion tour as “an exercise in nostalgia” and declaring that his focus on this album was to see what developed spontaneously in the studio with a group featuring Dominic Miller and Vinnie Colaiuta, both longtime members of his touring band.

Earlier this summer, Sting participated in the very collaborative and well received Rock Paper Scissors tour with Peter Gabriel. There are currently no plans for any tour in support of 57th & 9th, which streets on November 11.

Elvis Costello's " UNFAITHFUL MUSIC & DISAPPEARING INK " Available in Paperback on Oct 11

Elvis Costello is one of the most distinctive and innovative popular songwriters and performers of the last four decades. His unconventional, and unforgettable memoir, UNFAITHFUL MUSIC & DISAPPEARING INK (Blue Rider Press; Publication Date: October 11, 2016; $17.00) is now available in paperback, just as his 2016 world music tour is garnering considerable excitement and rapidly selling out. His book explores the private and emotional foundation of his music, and the influence of three generations of his family’s history upon both the artist and the man.

Costello also provides a unique, incidental survey of modern pop history, as he shares anecdotes about his many illustrious collaborators and reflects on the vagaries of fame. “A lot of people have got spoilt and ruined by sudden success and pushing too hard,” he writes. “I thought I was an exception but I wasn’t as smart or in control as I pretended to be.”

The Grammy Award-winning recording artist and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee found his way into the English music scene in late ‘70s. Musically dynamic, lyrically intricate, and sometimes opaque, Costello’s outlook was skeptical, romantic, and darkly humorous, often within the same number. Although Costello only scraped the American charts with My Aim Is True, This Year’s Model, and Armed Forces, those albums are regularly cited among the most influential records in rock and roll history.

"AMERICAN MASTERS: NORMAN LEAR: JUST ANOTHER VERSION OF YOU" Out on DVD/BD October 25

PBS Distribution announced today it is releasing “AMERICAN MASTERS: NORMAN LEAR: JUST ANOTHER VERSION OF YOU,” the first documentary about the 94-year-old television legend, on DVD and Blu-ray. Largely responsible for the explosion of bold American television in the 1970s, writer/producer Norman Lear’s name is synonymous with the sitcom.

With unprecedented access to Lear, his work and his massive personal archives, “NORMAN LEAR: JUST ANOTHER VERSION OF YOU” combines stories from his turbulent childhood and early career with his groundbreaking TV success (All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Good Times, Maude) and social activism. The documentary also features colorful stories from Lear’s family, friends and collaborators, including John Amos, George Clooney, Alan Horn, Bill Moyers, Rob Reiner, Phil Rosenthal and Russell Simmons, as well as cinéma vérité moments with Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, Jon Stewart, Amy Poehler and Lena Dunham.

“AMERICAN MASTERS: NORMAN LEAR: JUST ANOTHER VERSION OF YOU” will be available on DVD and Blu-ray October 25, 2016. The run time of this program is approximately 90 minutes. The DVD SRP is $24.99 and the Blu-ray SRP is $29.99. The DVD and Blu-ray include over 12 minutes of bonus features. The program will also be available for digital download.

Breaking down the fourth wall to create an evocative collage where past and present intermingle, Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady (Jesus Camp, 12th & Delaware, DETROPIA for Independent Lens) reveal a psychologically rich man whose extraordinary contributions emerge from both his personal story and his own self-professed childlike view of the world. The documentary traces how a poor Jewish kid from Connecticut started writing for The Colgate Comedy Hour with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, created All in the Family and became one of TV’s most successful showrunners. All character-driven, with theatrical sets and live audiences, Lear’s TV series changed not only the face of national television but the content of national discourse. Bringing provocative subjects like war, poverty and prejudice to 120 million viewers every week, Lear proved that social change was possible through an unlikely prism – laughter – and created some of the greatest moments in television history.

THE PRETENDERS RETURN WITH NEW ALBUM, ALONE, ON OCTOBER 21

The Pretenders has announced the release of its long-awaited new album. ALONE (out via BMG)
arrives everywhere on October 21 and is available for pre-order now with B&T,The complete album tracklisting is below. And, the album's electrifying first single LISTEN TO "HOLY COMMOTION" below.

ALONE was recorded with The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach at his Easy Eye Studio in Nashville and mixed by Tchad Blake (The Black Keys, Elvis Costello, Richard Thompson). The  album was initially conceived as follow-up to legendary bandleader Chrissie Hynde's acclaimed 2014 solo debut, STOCKHOLM, but as its songs and sonics took shape, the collection soon revealed itself as the first all new Pretenders LP since 2008's BREAK UP THE CONCRETE.

ALONE sees the one and only Hynde backed by a team of what she proudly calls "real people playing real instruments," helmed by the multi-talented Auerbach and featuring Nashville session luminaries including bassist Dave Roe (Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Sturgill Simpson), pedal steel pioneer Russ Pahl (Blake Shelton, Don Williams, Luke Bryan), and guitarist Kenny Vaughan (Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives, Lana Del Rey, Ray LaMontagne), as well as keyboardist Leon Michels and drummer Richard Swift - both charter members of Auerbach's adventurous garage rock combo The Arcs.Hynde and Auerbach made for ideal foils, two idiosyncratic songwriter/musicians each possessing a deep knowledge and even deeper love of rock 'n' roll, both of course hailing from the City of Invention itself, Akron, Ohio. Though neither remain, Akron continues to inform both artists' work, the Rubber City's long history of progressivism and ingenuity, hard work and musical experimentation, are all very much present in their first full-length collaboration. ALONE indeed bears all the trademarks of the Pretenders' legendary canon - raw and rollicking riffs, poignant balladry, taut hooks and indelible melodies, all in service of Hynde's heartworn, ever-unsentimental songcraft. Nearly four decades on from The Pretenders' epochal 1980 debut album, Hynde's instantly identifiable voice is perhaps more emotional, more aggressive than at any other time in her career as all the vocals were recorded in 48 hours. That extra bit of edge only serves to add fire to new Pretenders classics like the brutally candid "I Hate Myself" and the defiant title track, a spiky rocker that sees Hynde extolling the joys and virtues of solitude."We were in the studio hanging out," Hynde says, "and the guys were talking about their families and their wives and I said, 'Well, I do everything alone. I go to  the cinema alone. I go to restaurants alone. I live alone. I pretty much do everything on my own. I don't mind.' Dan says, 'Write a song about it.' "The more I thought about it," she continues, "I thought, I've heard 1,000 songs  in my life, they're all about, I am so tired of being alone. I can't live without you. Since you've left my world has fallen apart. When am I going to see you again? Marry me and be with me for the rest of my life. I have never heard anyone celebrate being alone in a song. I couldn't think of one."

Mathews (keyboards), with special guest vocalist Ronald Isley.

Live At The House Of Blues, Las Vegas includes several tracks from the new album plus classic hits from the band’s first three albums, to which “Santana IV” is the natural successor, including: “Jingo,” “Soul Sacrifice,” “Samba Pa Ti,” “Black Magic Woman,” “Evil Ways,” “Oye Como Va,” “Everybody’s Everything” and more!

On March 21st, 2016, a few weeks prior to the release of the Santana IV album, this classic line-up of Santana took to the stage at the House Of Blues in Las Vegas. This was a hugely anticipated reunion of a line-up that had not performed and recorded together since the early seventies. It brought back the scintillating combination of rock, Latin, blues, jazz and African rhythms which was the band’s trademark and made them truly unique.

In addition to this fantastic concert, Live At The House Of Blues, Las Vegas includes interviews with the band as a bonus feature.

Live At The House Of Blues, Las Vegas was a celebration of the chemistry, dynamism and pure musical joy that had made the original band so special and earned them a place in so many fans’ hearts. It is a show to be enjoyed over and over again.

NPR Music is now streaming Okkervil River’s new album Away in full via First Listen – LISTEN HERE. NPR says of the album, “Away is a rebuilding-yourself-from-the-ground-up kind of record… Sheff uses the occasion to take his time and let his songs breathe.”

Order Away now, it's out September 9

Watch the epic, moving video for “Okkervil River R.I.P.”, written and directed by, and starring Will Sheff, along with acclaimed actor Tim Blake Nelson (O’ Brother Where Art Thou, Lincoln). “Okkervil River R.I.P.” opens the upcoming album Away, out September 9 via ATO, and sets the tone for what Sheff sees as a turning point for his long-running indie-folk project. He says of the album: “Eventually, I realized I was writing a death story for a part of my life that had, buried inside of it, a path I could follow that might let me go somewhere new.”

"For the Love of Brahms", out 9/30 from Joshua Bell and Steven Isserlis

Violinist Joshua Bell and cellist Steven Isserlis are joined by two acclaimed musical forces - pianist Jeremy Denk and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, of which Bell is Music Director - in a landmark joint recording, For the Love of Brahms (Sony Classical).  Available September 30, 2016, the new album is a unique project that features works of Brahms and Schumann that Bell calls "music about love and friendship."

A personal, deeply affectionate impulse frequently sparked the music of Johannes Brahms and his mentor, Robert Schumann – often including their mutual friend, the violinist and composer Joseph Joachim. It clearly drove all three works on For the Love of Brahms.

Bell, Isserlis and Denk unite here in Brahms's first published chamber work, the Piano Trio in B Major, Op. 8 in its rarely performed original 1854 version. Isserlis also joins Bell - as violin soloist and director - and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields in Brahms's last orchestral work, the celebrated Double Concerto (for Violin and Cello) in A Minor, Op. 102. Bell, Isserlis and members of the Academy also offer the first recording of an unusual coupling: the slow movement of Schumann's rarely heard Violin Concerto, in a version for string orchestra made by Benjamin Britten, who also added a short coda.
