DISNEY•PIXAR'S "CARS 3" FUELS TWO SOUNDTRACKS

As Lightning McQueen heads to the big screen alongside his new tech-savvy trainer Cruz Ramirez, Disney•Pixar's " Cars 3" fuels two soundtrack releases, both available from Walt Disney Records on June 16 via Baker & Taylor as the film opens in theaters nationwide. The Cars 3 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, features eight tracks, including original songs by Dan Auerbach and ZZ Ward, four covers by various artists, and two instrumental tracks from Brad Paisley. The Cars 3 Original Score Composed and Conducted by Randy Newman reunites the "Cars" franchise with the Oscar-winning composer.

Both soundtracks are available for pre-order now.

"Lightning McQueen is on the journey of a lifetime—traveling cross-country, revisiting the past and looking into his own heart and soul to answer some big questions," said "Cars 3" director Brian Fee. "Just like the music in the first two 'Cars' movies, the songs and score in this film really help support the story we are telling."

CARS 3 ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK
The Cars 3 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features "Run That Race," an original song written and performed by nine-time Grammy® winner Dan Auerbach that can be heard as the movie opens. "The song is about never giving up and always trying your best," said Auerbach, who met with filmmakers prior to penning the song. "They showed me the storyboards and ran through the plot. I was able to read some of the dialogue and from there I had enough to piece together a story in my mind for the song."

Auerbach, of the band The Black Keys,  will release Waiting on a Song, his second solo album, on June 2 via his new label, Easy Eye Sound.

The soundtrack also features "Ride," an original end-credit song performed by Hollywood Records artist ZZ Ward, featuring musician Gary Clark Jr. Written by Ward, Evan Bogart and Dave Bassett, the song was released by Walt Disney Records as a digital single on April 14. It was performed live by Ward April 17 on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars." Ward's sophomore album, The Storm, will be released June 30.

The soundtrack also features four cover songs, including two bonus tracks.*
  • "Kings Highway," originally released in 1991 by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, makes a comeback courtesy of 23-year-old British singer-songwriter James Bay.
  • Bruce Springsteen's 1984 hit "Glory Days" gets a modern-day makeover by Grammy-nominated performer Andra Day, who voices Sweet Tea in the film, a performer in the Cotter Pin with a hairstyle reminiscent of Day's signature look.
  • *The Beatles' classic 1965 song "Drive My Car" is back on the road, compliments of Hollywood Records artist Jorge Blanco.
  • *"Freeway of Love," made famous in 1985 by Aretha Franklin, is performed for the soundtrack by actress Lea DeLaria, who also provides the voice of Miss Fritter, a school bus-turned-demolition-derby-queen in "Cars 3."
Three-time Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, guitarist and entertainer Brad Paisley, who has 24 No. 1 singles under his belt, was called on to create two instrumental tracks that are featured on the Cars 3 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. "Truckaroo" and "Thunder Hollow Breakdown" accompany the film's action-packed Crazy 8 demolition derby sequence that puts Lightning and Cruz in the midst of total chaos. "Brad Paisley was part of both 'Cars' and 'Cars 2,'" said Tom MacDougall, executive vice president of music at Disney. "We knew he could have some fun with a demolition derby, and he just killed it. His down-home country tracks really add to the scene's action and humor."

From Walt Disney Records, the Cars 3 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is available June 16 and can be pre-ordered via Baker & Taylor's Title Source 360 ordering platform.

CARS 3 ORIGINAL SCORE SOUNDTRACKNewman, who was behind the Oscar-winning music in Disney·Pixar's "Toy Story 3" and "Monsters, Inc.," composed the score for the first "Cars" movie and penned the Oscar-nominated song "Our Town." For "Cars 3," Newman created a score that reflects the heart and high-octane action of the film—21 tracks are included on the soundtrack. "Randy has a real connection to the 'Cars' world," says MacDougall. "His ability to capture the feeling of this film, its characters, locations and the Americana theme throughout is extraordinary—the music is so naturally fluid and inspired. It really feels like Randy is coming home with this score."

Newman used a 110-piece orchestra to record the score. The Cars 3 Original Score Composed and Conducted by Randy Newman is available June 16 from Walt Disney Records and can be pre-ordered now.

"American Epic:The Collection" and "American Epic: The Soundtrack" Releases May 12

Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release AMERICAN EPIC: The Collection, a 5-CD/100 song deluxe box set, and AMERICAN EPIC: The Soundtrack, a single disc anthology of 15 songs featured in the AMERICAN EPIC three-part historical
documentary on 1CD on Friday, May 12.

AMERICAN EPIC: The Collection and AMERICAN EPIC: The Soundtrack--each available as physical product--lead the way for a series of releases of music associated with the film series AMERICAN EPIC, produced by Allison McGourty, Duke Erikson and Directed by Bernard MacMahon, premiering in the U.S. on PBS on Tuesdays May 16, 23 and 30 at 9 p.m. (check local listings)

The AMERICAN EPIC historical documentaries are a journey back in time to the "Big Bang" of modern popular music.

In the 1920s, as radio took over the pop music business, record companies were forced to leave their studios in major cities in search of new styles and markets. Ranging the mountains, prairies, rural villages, and urban ghettos of America, they discovered a wealth of unexpected talent. The recordings they made of all the ethnic groups of America democratized the nation and gave a voice to everyone. Country singers in the Appalachians, Blues guitarists in the Mississippi Delta, Gospel preachers across the south, Cajun fiddlers in Louisiana, Tejano groups from the Texas Mexico border, Native American drummers in Arizona, and Hawaiian musicians were all recorded. For the first time, a woman picking cotton in Mississippi, a coalminer in Virginia or a tobacco farmer in Tennessee could have their thoughts and feelings heard on records played in living rooms across the country. It was the first time America heard itself.

Paul Weller Completes First Film Project, JAWBONE

For the first time in his long career, Paul Weller (The Jam, Style Council) has recorded his first-ever full film score / soundtrack project, entitled JAWBONE: Music From The Film, which will be released on Warner Bros. Records in the U.S. on March 10th. JAWBONE, the film, will be released in theatres on March 17th in  the U.K. This is the first new music from Weller since his universally praised 2015 album Saturns Pattern. JAWBONE: Music From the Film will be available for pre-order soon

The film's star, writer, and co-producer is the BAFTA-nominated actor Johnny Harris and is a long-time fan of Weller's. He approached the singer a few years ago through  a mutual friend on the off-chance he would be interested. However, all that existed at that point was the script - no cast and no budget - but Weller was keen and a great partnership, and friendship, were forged.

"Paul would constantly send through any new ideas, demos, or recordings, and what was unique and beautiful about this approach was that his new compositions were now inspiring and influencing the story as I was re-writing it," Harris says. "I'd also send Paul new drafts of the script, or any new ideas as they were forming along the way, and a beautifully collaborative process evolved."

Kicks OST out on September 9

Uni's Back Lot Music will release the soundtrack album for Focus World's Kicks the debut feature film from director Justin Tipping – on September 9, it was announced Friday on Billboard.com.  The Kicks Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features artists such as Wu-Tang Clan, Mac Dre, RJD2, Charles Bradley, Iamsu!, Marc E. Bassy and Brian Reitzell. The soundtrack will release day and date with the film's theatrical release on September 9 on CD. A vinyl version of the album is planned for release later this year.

The music of the film Kicks acts almost as another lead character in Tipping's urban coming-of-age tale set in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was important to have the film be reflective of a place and time, and local Bay Area artists like Mac Dre, Iamsu!, Roach Gigz, Dave Steezy and NanosauR help to do just that. Almost every song heard in the film is available as part of the soundtrack album. It also boasts songs that you can't get anywhere else from NanosauR, Jay Casio & Brian Reitzell.

The songs in the movie are held together by composer Reitzell's pulsating score, which often acts as the music bed for some of lead actor Jahking Guillory's poignant moments of spoken rap. Creating his own unique method of scoring films, Reitzell draws equally from his experience as a recording and touring musician. His vision for this film score was to create a seamless landscape of songs, score and source music. It also helps that Reitzell himself is from the East Bay area, where the film takes place. "I have always wanted to score a film based there," says Reitzell. "Justin [Tipping] captured the look and feel of the place in such a real way. It was a very natural process for me because I felt so connected to it. The people, the streets, BART trains, the music… it's under my skin."

OST from Woody Allen's Cafe Society Out Now

Sony Classical released the original soundtrack for Woody Allen’s CAFÉ SOCIETY on CD on July 8, 2016. The soundtrack includes a great compliation of the music from the 1930’s, largely from the Rodgers and Hart, chosen by Allen and featured prominently in the film. The album includes original performances by Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks as well as the on-screen performance of “Mountain Greenery” with Sony Music Masterworks recording artist Kat Edmonson.

Set in the 1930s, Woody Allen’s bittersweet romance CAFÉ SOCIETY follows Bronx-born Bobby Dorfman (Jesse Eisenberg) to Hollywood, where he falls in love, and back to New York, where he is swept up in the vibrant world of high society nightclub life. Centering on events in the lives of Bobby’s colorful Bronx family, the film is a glittering valentine to the movie stars, socialites, playboys, debutantes, politicians, and gangsters who epitomized the excitement and glamour of the age. With CAFÉ SOCIETY, Woody Allen conjures up a 1930s world that has passed to tell a deeply romantic tale of dreams that never die.

The film opened the 69th annual Cannes Film Festival to rave reviews and is scheduled for wide release July 15. Allen becomes the first and only director to have three opening night films selected for the Cannes Film Festival (HOLLYWOOD ENDING opened in Cannes in 2002 and MIDNIGHT IN PARIS in 2011).

“The soundtrack consists of music from the 1930s, since that’s when the picture takes place,” Allen stated. “Most of the material is Rodgers and Hart, who are very dominant in those years, and have that bittersweet romantic quality that defines the spirit of the movie itself.”

The success of CAFÉ SOCIETY wouldn’t be complete without the partnership of composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Lorenz Hart. Rodgers and Hart were an American songwriting duo that worked together on 28 stage musicals and more than 500 songs. From 1936 to 1943, the duo wrote a series of Broadway musical comedies, each of which seemed to top the one before in terms of innovation and box office success. ON YOUR TOES (1936), BABES IN ARMS (1937), I'D RATHER BE RIGHT (1937), I MARRIED AN ANGEL (1938), THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE (1938), TOO MANY GIRLS (1939), HIGHER AND HIGHER (1940), PAL JOEY (1940), and BY JUPITER (1942) dazzled Broadway in spectacular succession, and collectively offered such classic songs as "There's A Small Hotel," "I Wish I Were In Love Again," "My Funny Valentine," "Where Or When," "The Lady Is A Tramp," "Spring Is Here," "Falling In Love With Love," "Sing For Your Supper," "This Can't Be Love," "I Didn't Know What Time It Was," "It Never Entered My Mind," "Bewitched," "I Could Write A Book," "Nobody's Heart," and "Wait Till You See Her."

Vince Giordano’s passion for music from the 1920’s & 30’s, and the people that made it, began at age 5. He has amassed an amazing collection of over 60,000 band arrangements, 1920’s and 30’s films, 78 recordings and jazz-age memorabilia. Giordano’s passion, commitment to authenticity, and knowledge led him to create a sensational band of like-minded players, the Nighthawks. For over 40 years, Vince Giordano has single-handedly kept alive a wonderful genre of American music that continues to spread the joy and pathos of an era that shaped our nation. Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks can be heard on the soundtracks of films including The Cotton Club, The Aviator, Finding Forrester, Revolutionary Road, and on TV on HBOs Boardwalk Empire.

Texas native Kat Edmonson grew up listening to the Great American Songbook. She has performed alongside Willie Nelson and Lyle Lovett and been featured on “The Tonight Show,” “Austin City Limits” and NPR’s “All Things Considered.” To date, Edmonson has released three albums to critical acclaim, Take To the Sky, Way Down Low and The Big Picture. She is currently working on a new album that is scheduled for release in 2017.

Love & Friendship OST Releasing May 13

Sony Classical has announced the release of LOVE & FRIENDSHIP (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) on CD, May 13. LOVE & FRIENDSHIP, writer-director Whit Stillman's adaptation of Jane Austen's Lady Susan, was the comedy hit of this year's Sundance and Rotterdam film festivals. Whilst ensconced there, she decides to secure a husband for herself and for her daughter, Frederica, played by Morfydd Clark.

Chloë Sevigny, who starred with Beckinsale in Stillman's The Last Days of Disco (1998), plays Lady Susan's friend and confidante Alicia Johnson, with Stephen Fry as her husband, the "very Respectable" Mr. Johnson. The waters are troubled by the arrival at Churchill of the handsome, eligible Reginald DeCourcy (Xavier Samuel) and silly but cheerful -- and very rich -- Sir James Martin (Tom Bennett).

BURNT Soundtrack to Arrive in December

Lakeshore Records will release BURNT- Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on CD December 18, 2015. The album features the film’s original score by Rob Simonsen (THE AGE OF ADALINE, FOXCATCHER) and tracks by Barnes Courtney, Autograf, RY X, The Avener & John Lee Hooker,
plus the original track “Ode to a Sous Vide” performed by the film’s Bradley Cooper. The deluxe version contains one additional song, “Flashlight” by Bonobo.

“We wanted something elegant, but with movement,” said composer Simonsen. “A small chamber orchestra seemed to fit the bill, along with looped and treated sounds and electronics.” Simonsen wanted to cover a few bases in the score: “Emotional moments for budding romance or moments of tenderness, which is more about Adam softening, moments of tension where things were in jeopardy, and moments of the act of cooking/creating/celebrating.”

BURNT is about a chef, Adam Jones (Bradley Cooper), who had it all – and lost it. The former enfant terrible of the Paris restaurant scene had earned two Michelin stars and only ever cared about the thrill of creating explosions of taste. To land his own kitchen and that third elusive star though, Jones will need to leave his bad habits behind and get the best of the best on his side, including the beautiful Helene (Sienna Miller). BURNT is a remarkably funny and emotional story about the love of food, the love between two people, and the power of second chances.

TRUTH OST Arriving December 6

Varèse Sarabande will release the TRUTH – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on CD
December 4, 2015. The album features original music by composer Brian Tyler (AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, IRON MAN 3), whose 12-year relationship with the label includes the soundtracks for numerous films including BATTLE: LOS ANGELES, CHILDREN OF DUNE, CONSTANTINE, FAST FIVE, INTO THE STORM, and ANNAPOLIS.

TRUTH is an exploration of the often fragile and tense relationship between journalism and politics and the humanity of pursuing the truth,” explained Tyler.  The film is based on Mary Mapes' memoir Truth and Duty: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power detailing the 2004 CBS 60 Minutes report investigating the military service of then-President George W. Laurie Anderson's "Heart of a Dog" OST Out Now

The complete soundtrack recording of Laurie Anderson's newest piece, Heart of a Dog, is out now
on Nonesuch Records. Anderson was commissioned by the European TV network Arte to create a feature film—her first in 30 years. Her response was a personal essay entitled Heart of a Dog, a work encompassing joy and heartbreak, at the heart of which is a lament for her late beloved dog Lolabelle. Watch the film's trailer below. The Nonesuch album is the full audio recording of the film, including all music and spoken text.

Heart of a Dog has been shown at the Telluride, Venice, Toronto, London, and New York Film Festivals to critical praise and opened theatrically this week at New York's Film Forum.

The film invites viewers to spend "75 enthralling minutes with the endlessly associative contents of Anderson's head and heart," says NPR film critic Ella Taylor. "Heart of a Dog is the ultimate realist narrative. It flows along, mimicking the continuous, fleeting, fragmentary flow of consciousness, the haze that lies between sleeping and waking, even between death and whatever lies behind it."

The New York Times' Manohla Dargis has made this "dreamy, drifty and altogether lovely movie" a Critics' Pick. "Heart of a Dog is about telling and remembering and forgetting, and how we put together the fragments that make up our lives," writes Dargis. "At times, it feels as if she too were haunting her movie even as, with every image and word, she fills it with life." New York called it "one of the most moving and provocative films you’ll see this year."
