"Megafalls of Iguacu" and "deserts and life" Set for DVD Release by Public Media

Public Media Distribution announced today it is releasing “Megafalls of Iguacu” on DVD. Deep in the heart of South America, where Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay collide, lies one of the most spectacular geographical secrets of the natural world, a place forged from the explosive clashing of the earth’s tectonic plates.

“Megafalls of Iguacu” will be available on DVD February 23, 2016. The run time of the DVD is approximately 60 minutes and its SRP is $24.99.

Over three miles long and 300 feet high, Iguaçu is one of the greatest waterfall on earth. Five times the size of Niagara, some 2000 tons of water pour over its 300 cascades each second. These awesome falls are also home to one of the richest habitats on earth: 2000 species of plants, 450 species of birds, 50 different mammals and more reptiles and insects than anyone has been able to count.

This visually stunning documentary charts the dramas and intimacies of daily life for those animals adaptable enough to make Iguaçu their home and follows the rangers who risk their lives to guard the animals from the poacher’s guns. PBS to Release "American Experience : Bonnie & Clyde" on DVD

PBS Distribution announced today it is releasing “AMERICAN EXPERIENCE: Bonnie and Clyde” on DVD. Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow had been on a year-long crime spree, leaving a trail of dead bodies in their wake, yet were little more than a local curiosity until photos of the couple were discovered at a hastily abandoned hideout in 1933. The image of a beret-clad Bonnie, cigar in mouth, pistol in hand, striking a defiantly provocative pose, would soon achieve near mythic status. Overnight, the country became transfixed by the scandalous images and press accounts of their improbable escapes and illicit romance. Bonnie and Clyde would join the ranks of celebrity gangsters like John Dillinger, ‘Pretty Boy’ Floyd, and ‘Baby Face’ Nelson, ‘public enemies’ who emerged during the Great Depression to capture the country’s imagination. But their newfound notoriety would force the outlaw lovers to take even greater risks as the hunt to capture them kicked into high gear.

Clyde Chestnut Barrow was born in the Texas cotton belt on March 24, 1909, one of seven children of itinerant farmers who soon settled on the outskirts of Dallas in a poor backwater slum known as “the devil’s back porch.” Clyde chafed at the prospect of a life of poverty and picked up the bad habits of his older brother, Buck, who had already settled into a life of petty crime. But the brothers quickly escalated from stealing chickens to armed robbery.

2016 New Year's Concert with the Vienna Philharmonic to Get CD, DVD & Blu-ray Release

Sony Classical is pleased to announce the CD and DVD/BD releases of the recording of one of the world's most famous classical music events: the 2016 New Year's Concert with the Vienna Philharmonic under the direction of Latvian conductor Mariss Jansons. Few other concerts can claim to generate such tremendous international interest as the New Year's Concert from Vienna. Under the direction of some of the leading conductors of our day the Vienna Philharmonic rings in the New Year with a gala concert that is broadcast from the magnificent setting of the Golden Hall in Vienna's Musikverein to over ninety countries around the world and watched by more than fifty million viewers. The 2016 New Year's Concert is conducted by the maestro Jansons, the third time that he has presided over this event. He made his acclaimed debut in 2006, before returning six years later for a concert that was described by the Viennese daily Der Kurier as "a red-letter day in the annals of music" and as "one of the finest concerts of recent decades," a concert worthy of being "ranked alongside the legendary New Year's Concerts under Karajan and Kleiber." Jansons made his debut with the Vienna Philharmonic in 1992, and since then he has been one of those select conductors with whom the orchestra feels a particularly close bond.

PBS to Release "Independent Lens : The Black Panthers; Vanguard of the Revolution"

PBS Distribution will release “INDEPENDENT LENS: THE BLACK PANTHERS: VANGUARD OF THE REVOLUTION” on DVD and Blu-ray. Change was coming to America and the fault lines could no longer be ignored; cities were burning, Vietnam was exploding, and disputes raged over equality and civil rights. A new revolutionary culture was emerging and it sought to drastically transform the system. The Black Panther Party for Self-Defense would, for a short time, put itself at the vanguard of that change. Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Stanley Nelson (Freedom Summer, Freedom Riders) thoroughly examines The Black Panther Party, as he sifts through the fragmented perceptions of the movement and the Party itself.

PBS Distribution announced today it is releasing “MERCY STREET” on DVD and Blu-ray. Go beyond the battlefield and into the lives of Americans on the Civil War home front as they face the unprecedented challenges of one of the most turbulent times in our nation’s history.

Set in Virginia in the spring of 1862, the program follows the lives of two volunteer nurses on opposite sides of the conflict; Mary Phinney, (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a staunch New England abolitionist, and Emma Green, (Hannah James), a naive young Confederate belle. The two collide at Mansion House, the Green family’s luxury hotel that has been taken over and transformed into a Union Army Hospital in Alexandria, a border town between North and South and the longest-occupied Confederate city of the war. Ruled under martial law, Alexandria is now the melting pot of the region, filled with soldiers, civilians, female volunteers, doctors, wounded fighting men from both sides, runaway slaves, prostitutes, speculators and spies.
