Lana Del Rey Shares "Groupie Love" off of new "Lust for Life" album

Lana Del Rey has shared a new song with A$AP Rocky, called “Groupie Love;” along with the track list for her new album.  Listen Groupie Love  below from B&T, below.  The track is one of two new Rocky collaborations on her upcoming Lust for Life album, following “Summer Bummer,” which also features Playboi Carti.  Her new release, out July 21, includes the previously shared “Lust for Life,” “Love,” and “Coachella - Woodstock in My Mind.”  As you may recall, before this new work, Lana and Rocky joined up in 2012 for the “National Anthem” video. In it, Rocky played John F. Kennedy and Lana played Jackie Kennedy.

In 2004, The Who returned to the Isle Of Wight Festival for the first time since their legendary 1970 performance. After a long absence, the festival had been reborn in 2002 and continues to this day. The Who’s UK concerts in 2004 were the first in their home country since the death of founding member / bassist John Entwistle. As the evening shadows lengthened across the festival site, The Who took to the stage and delivered an incendiary performance packed with hit singles and classic album tracks. The concert more than lived up to the fans’ expectations and memories of 1970.

Paul Weller Announces "A Kind Revolution" in May

Paul Weller has announced details on his upcoming new album. A Kind Revolution via Warner.  His 13th solo set streets on May 12. Listen to  “Nova” and “Long Long Road” below.   “Work began on the new record immediately after wrapping up  2015’s Saturns Pattern and once again features the full spectrum of Weller’s influences, from rock to R&B, soul to jazz, and funk to folk,” his official press release states. Weller long-standing touring band of Andy Crofts, Ben Gordelier, Steve Cradock and Steve Pilgrim are joined by a variety of guests.

Soul legend PP Arnold, who sang with the Small Faces and others, joins the cast along with Madeleine Bell, who has backed up the Rolling Stones and Elton John. And, Robert Wyatt contributes vocals and a trumpet solo to the track “She Moves With the Fayre.” The former Soft Machine member has worked with Weller in the past, but announced his retirement a few years back.

Strypes guitarist Josh McClorey also lends a hand, but a big surprise here is Boy George, who duets with Weller on the song “One Tear.” “It’s quite housey,” Weller recently told Uncut magazine. “George sings the first verse and then he comes in on the chorus. Our voices sound really good together.”

Cellist Yo-Yo Ma, mandolinist Chris Thile, and bassist Edgar Meyer have shared their recording of J.S. Bach's Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, BWV 645, from their forthcoming album, Bach Trios, releasing April 7. You can hear it below.

Bach Trios comprises works by J.S. Bach originally written for keyboard instruments, plus one sonata for viola da gamba. In 2011, Ma, Thile, and Meyer—along with Stuart Duncan—collaborated on The Goat Rodeo Sessions, which won two Grammy Awards. The trio, which played Bach on the Thile–hosted radio program A Prairie Home Companion in December, performs in nine cities across the US beginning on April 21.

New Chuck Berry Album ‘CHUCK’ Set For June 16 Release On Dualtone

Dualtone Records (an Entertainment One Company), has set a June 16 release date for ‘CHUCK,’ the final album and first new recordings in nearly four decades by founding rock and roll legend Chuck Berry, who passed away last week at the age of 90.

Comprised of ten new recordings, eight of which were written by Berry, ‘CHUCK’ is his first new album since 1979’s ‘Rock It.’ It was recorded and produced by Berry in various studios around St. Louis and features his longtime hometown backing group - including his children Charles Berry Jr. (guitar) and Ingrid Berry (vocals, harmonica), plus Jimmy Marsala (Berry’s bassist for forty years), Robert Lohr (piano), and Keith Robinson (drums) - which supported him for nearly two decades on over two hundred residency shows at the famed Blueberry Hill club.  The album also includes guest performances from Gary Clark Jr., Tom Morello, Nathaniel Rateliff, and Chuck’s grandson Charles Berry III.  Acclaimed author and historian Douglas Brinkley contributes liner notes.
Both Morello and Rateliff appear on album track “Big Boys,” which Brinkley calls “a guitar player’s national anthem” in his notes.  The song is streaming now; listen below.

Fleet Foxes Announces 6/16 Crack-Up

On June 16, Fleet Foxes will release Crack-Up (Nonesuch Records), its long awaited and highly anticipated third album. Crack-Up comes six years after the 2011 release of Helplessness Blues and nearly a decade since the band’s 2008 self-titled debut. Fleet Foxes has released the album track "Third of May / Ōdaigahara," a nearly nine-minute epic powered by piano and electric twelve-string guitar, string quartet, and the group's trademark sparkling harmonies. In addition, the band has announced new tour dates, including their first North American shows since October 2011. All eleven of the songs on Crack-Up were written by Robin Pecknold. The album was co-produced by Pecknold and Skyler Skjelset, his longtime bandmate, collaborator, and childhood friend. Crack-Up was recorded at various locations across the United States between July 2016 and January 2017: at Electric Lady Studios, Sear Sound, The Void, Rare Book Room, Avast, and The Unknown. Phil Ek mixed the album, at Sear Sound, and it was mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound. Fleet Foxes is Robin Pecknold (vocals, multi-instrumentalist), Skyler Skjelset (multi-instrumentalist, vocals), Casey Wescott (multi-instrumentalist, vocals), Christian Wargo (multi-instrumentalist, vocals), and Morgan Henderson (multi-instrumentalist).

Sheryl Crows Returns With "Be Myself"

Multi-platinum-selling singer, songwriter, and musician Sheryl Crow will release a new album,

entitled Be Myself, on April 21st via Warner Bros. Records.         Be Myself, her ninth studio album and the first album for the label is available for pre-order now.   A video for “Halfway There” has been created utilizing cut-out animation style which presents the songs lyrical questions through a whimsical Monty Python-esque satirical imagery. Crow celebrated the announcement of her new album by playing to an absolutely packed house at a rare, surprise club show at West Hollywood’s intimate Troubadour last week where the lucky crowd was treated to a handful of new tracks from Be Myself, along with several fan favorites. Tedeschi Trucks Band Preps "Live From the Fox Oakland" Video, Album Release

On March 17th, 2017 Tedeschi Trucks Band will release their second live album and first ever 'Live From The Fox Oakland' on Fantasy Records. Led by the husband-and-wife duo of guitar master Derek Trucks and singer-guitarist Susan Tedeschi, the 12-piece ensemble's breathtaking live show is captured here over 15 blistering tracks. The film also features extensive behind the scenes footage, including Derek's recent visit to Marc Maron's garage for the WTF! Filmed and recorded in a single night, September 9th, 2016, at Oakland, CA's gorgeous Fox Theater, the concert film and audio were mixed using a vintage Neve console to achieve an exquisitely immersive sound experience, and mastering guru Bob Ludwig added his craft to the full 5.1 surround sound mix and album audio. The film was produced and directed by Jesse Lauter (Bob Dylan In The 80s: Volume One) and Grant James (Father John Misty) with Trucks continuing in his role as producer on all music elements. 'Live From The Fox Oakland' will be released in multiple formats including vinyl, DVD and Blu-ray. The collection includes cuts from Tedeschi Trucks Band's 2016 album 'Let Me Get By' as well as TTB's own interpretations of Leonard Cohen's "Bird on the Wire" and Bobby "Blue" Bland's "I Pity the Fool," two songs which feature the full range and power of Tedeschi's vocals. On Derek and the Dominos' "Keep On Growing" it's Trucks' guitar work that grabs the spotlight for a stunning extended solo. Watch the full 10-minute powerhouse performance here, below. In another memorable segment, sarod master Alam Khan joins TTB onstage for the first time on their original song "These Walls." This genre-defying moment reveals TTB's classical Indian influences and proves the 12-piece ensemble can drop their sound down to a whisper when it serves the song.

Conor Oberst Announces March "Salutations"

Conor Oberst has announced his new album, Salutations, for March 17 release on Nonesuch Records.  The album includes full band recordings with The Felice Brothers and drummer Jim Keltner; guests include Jim James, Gillian Welch, Blake Mills, Jonathan Wilson and more.

The album is a companion piece to his 2016 lauded Ruminations. When Oberst wrote and recorded the songs on Ruminations, entirely solo - with just voice, piano, guitar and harmonica - he intended to ultimately record them with a full band. In the midst of putting together that band - upstate New York's The Felice Brothers plus the legendary drummer Jim Keltner (Neil Young, Jackson Browne, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, and many more) - the passionate responses Oberst was getting  to those first solo recordings, from friends and colleagues, encouraged him to release the songs as-is, in their original sparse form, as his seventh solo album: Ruminations, which was released in October 2016. Pitchfork called it "a record like none other in Oberst's catalog, stunning for how utterly alone he sounds," and the UK's Sunday Times called it, "The rawest album yet from the forever troubled one-time voice of a generation. Political and very, very personal," saying Oberst is "one  of the best songwriters around."

Meanwhile, Oberst simultaneously moved ahead with his plans to record with the band, heading to the famed Shangri-la Studios in Malibu to record Salutations - co-produced with Keltner and engineered by long-time musical compadre Andy LeMaster. Guest contributions come courtesy of Jim James, Blake Mills, Maria Taylor, M Ward, Gillian Welch, Gus Seyffert, Pearl Charles, Nathaniel Walcott, and Jonathan Wilson.

Rhiannon Giddens Joins CMT's "Nashville" Cast

Rhiannon Giddens, whose new album, Freedom Highway, is out February 24 on Nonesuch Records, joins the cast of the television show Nashville as it returns for its fifth season on CMT.  Giddens made her own acting debut playing the role of Hanna Lee "Hallie" Jordan, a young social worker with "the voice of an angel," when CMT gave an hour-long sneak peek of the two-hour episode last month, leaving many a fan looking forward all the more to tonight's premiere. Nashville airs Thursday nights on CMT.

Freedom Highway, Giddens' follow-up to her highly praised solo debut album, Tomorrow Is My Turn, includes nine original songs she wrote or co-wrote; a traditional tune; and two civil rights–era songs, "Birmingham Sunday" and Staple Singers' "Freedom Highway." She co-produced the album with multi-instrumentalist Dirk Powell in his Louisiana studio, with the bulk of recording done in wooden rooms built prior to the Civil War, over an intense eight-day period. The result is an album that is rawer and more personal than its predecessor.

Santana's "Live at the House of Blues, Las Vegas" Releasing on October 21

It brought back the scintillating combination of rock, Latin, blues, jazz and African rhythms which was the band’s trademark and made them truly unique.

Okkervil River's New "Away" album, LISTEN !

Small Bill$, from Regina Spektor, off of her New "Remember Us to Life"- Listen

In celebration of Regina Spektor’s seventh album Remember Us To Life, out September 30 on Sire/Warner Bros. Records, Stereogum premiered the track “Small Bill$”. check it out above from Baker & taylor. They noted “it’s a deep-grooving, bass driven banger with Spektor singing intricate cadences that border on rapping. She laces vivid, alluring tales over hard-hitting drums and quick violin flourishes before easing up on the hook with infectious, melodic la-la’s. Her control of temperament on this track is excellent.”

Okkevil River RIP video- watch/listen

NPR Music recently premiered the epic, moving video for “Okkervil River R.I.P.”, written and directed by, and starring Will Sheff, along with acclaimed actor Tim Blake Nelson (O’ Brother Where Art Thou, Lincoln).

 

“Okkervil River R.I.P.” opens the upcoming album Away, out September 9 via ATO, and sets the tone for what Sheff sees as a turning point for his long-running indie-folk project. Okkervil River kicked off a series of underplays last month, in Portland, ME on July 14th. They played a sold out show at National Sawdust in NYC on July 20th, followed by a world tour upon the albums release in September.
 

Norah Jones back on October 7 with Day Breaks. Listen to her Carry On, NOW

Norah Jones has just announced her first album in four years, called Day Breaks. This follow-up to her  2012 release Little Broken Hearts will be out October 7th on Blue Note Records, and is said to be a return to her piano-based jazz roots.

“This new album feels full circle because I’m going back to my early influences,” Jones said in a recent press release. “After the first record, I drifted away from the piano a little bit. I still played it, but was more inspired to write on guitar. I really loved playing piano on this record.”

igniting her decision to go back to early sounds was the 2014 Blue Note Records at 75 concert in Washington, DC.  There, she performed a cover of Jesse Harris’ “I’ve Got to See You Again” with Wayne Shorter on saxophone, drummer Brian Blade, bassist John Patitucci, and Jason Moran on piano. Shorter and Blade joined Jones for this latest effort, as did organist Dr. Lonnie Smith.

Of the 12 songs on the record, nine are originals, with the three others being covers: Neil Young’s “Don’t Be Denied”, Duke Ellington’s “Fleurette Africaine (African Flower)”, and Horace Silver’s “Peace”. Along with the announcement, Jones has shared the video for soft and dusky lead single “Carry On”. Check that out below, from B&T.

Former Genesis singer, Ray Wilson, releasing his 6th solo album, Makes Me Think of Home

Makes Me Think Of Home, the 6th solo studio album from former Stiltskin and Genesis frontman, Ray Wilson, will be released on 7th October. Ray joined Genesis after the 1996 departure of Phil Collins.  This release comes hot on the heels of Song For A Friend, an acoustic album released
earlier this year and which garnered great reviews. Watch / listen, below to the brilliant new video for AMEN TO THAT the first track from former Genesis vocalist Ray Wilson's new album MAKES ME THINK OF HOME which is out on 7th October.  This electric album comes hot on the Heels of his critically acclaimed acoustic album Song For A Friend which came out earlier in the year.

Makes Me Think Of Home is a mix of pop, rock and prog which showcases Ray¹s remarkable voice.  The title track sees Ray looking back to his days living in Scotland, a country he left after finding love with a Polish dancer.  He moved to Poznan 8 years ago, and in this ambitious and very
moving track he reflects on his years trying to find peace and happiness in Edinburgh.

The album also contains subtle humour; particularly in the first single ³Amen To That². The track is accompanied by a multi-layered video production in which Ray showcases his acting skills as he takes on multiple characters in a range of unusual professions. The intense 7-day shoot produced what is undoubtedly the best video of Ray¹s career and which takes the instantly
memorable ³Amen To That² to another level, throwing in some unexpected twists along the way.

Mudcrutch Releases New Sean Penn Directed Video for "I Forgive It All"

Check out the new Mudcrutch video for "I Forgive It All" directed by  Sean Penn and Samuel Bayer and starring Anthony Hopkins.

The song was written and sung by Mudcrutch bassist Tom Petty.  Mudcrutch is Mike Campbell (guitar/vocals), Tom Leadon (guitar/vocals),  Randall Marsh (drums/vocals), Tom Petty (bass/vocals) and Benmont Tench (keyboards/vocals), and their recent "2" CD is out now!

The Bangles's "Ladies And Gentlemen… The Bangles!" Out June 24

Hand-selected by the band members from their personal music, archives, Ladies and Gentlemen… The Bangles! is a 16-track collection of re-mastered ’80s-era rarities, demos, live recordings and more, including their debut single and all of the tracks from their self-titled EP ; produced by legendary Ramones/Blondie producer Craig Leon, unavailable since its initial release on vinyl in 1982.  The set will be out on Omnivore Recordings on June 24, 2016.

Encompassing the very first years of the band’s development, from their earliest days as The Bangs to their incarnation as The Bangles, this is the original line-up of Susanna Hoffs, Debbi Peterson, Vicki Peterson, and their first bass player, Annette Zilinskas. (Annette’s replacement, long time Bangles bassist Michael Steele appears on a couple of live tracks.)

“We’re so pleased to give our fans and music lovers alike the chance to enjoy the early fruits of our labor. Some of these tracks have never seen the light of day,” states drummer/singer Debbi Peterson.
