The mesmerizing documentary SEASONS by filmmakers Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaudis an awe-inspiring and thought-provoking visual tale of the long and tumultuous shared history that inextricably binds humankind with the natural world.
Music Box Films Home Entertainment is releasing this final episode in the breathtakingly filmed trilogy of Air, Sea, and now – Land. After traveling the world alongside migrating birds (2001’s Winged Migration) and diving the oceans with whales and manta rays (2009’s Oceans), Perrin and Cluzaud return to more familiar ground: the lush green forests and land animals that emerged across Europe following the last Ice Age.
After the great thaw following an 80,000-year winter, SEASONS sets its focus on the "Golden Age" of the forest, when wolves, lynx, bison, stags, bears, bear cubs, and birds and bugs of every species occupied their new kingdom. It was only later that man arrived to share this habitat, first tentatively as migratory hunter/gatherers, then making inroads in the forest as agriculturalists, and later (and more dramatically) via industry and warfare.
“We must accept that [nature’s] wild species are not governed by our rules and calculations, and do not respond to our demands for profitability nor our esthetic criteria. The human race doesn’t just need what the forest produces, it needs the unpredictability of the living world,” says SEASONS co-director Jacques Perrin, who also serves as the film’s narrator. “It needs dreams, adventures, and surprises. Our thirst for perfection is impossible to quench. It needs an adventure playground that corresponds to its immensity.
Filmed over a four-year period in the national parks and animal reserves of France, Poland, Norway, Romania,Scotland and Italy and other locales by a team of ten cinematographers, the breathtakingly cinematic SEASONS offers a powerful wake-up call for all mankind to embrace and elevate nature instead of making inroads that may ultimately destroy it.
Following its theatrical rollout to the U.S.’s top markets this winter, MusicBox Films Home Entertainment will release SEASONS on Blu-ray and DVD for the first time on February 21, 2017. The Blu-ray and DVD will carry the suggested retail prices of $34.95 and $29.95, respectively.
A spectacular nature film that teems with life and resilience, telling the story of the forests from the end of the Ice Age to the present—and from the bottom of the food chain to the top—SEASONS is a film that demands to be experienced.
